QHow does the language development support service for children of multicultural family work?
A



The language development support service, targeting at children under 12 of multicultural family, is provided at the center, the nearby child care facility, kindergarten, elementary school, etc. free of charge.

 

○ Evaluation on language development

- Initial interview with the child and a guardian (parents, childcare center director, etc.)

- Evaluation on the child’s language development level using the instrument for evaluation that is appropriate for the child.

  • The evaluation is conducted one to four sessions (duration for each session: 40mins) and will be adjusted according to the age, development status, and surrounding situation of the child.

 

○ Education for Language Development

- As a result of the evaluation on language development, the child will receive the language education for accelerating the development of vocabulary and sentence structure, improving the conversation and social communication skills, and promoting the development of reading and storytelling.

- The education will be conducted by setting educational goals according to the child’s evaluation result.

  • Twice a week, 40mins for each lesson.

  • Lesson type: Individual (1:1), Collective (more than 2 persons)

※ Collective lessons aim at a group of children with the similar level in the age and development status.

 

○ Consultation and education for parents

- Parent consultation will be provided for forming a bond of sympathy between the child and the parents, while the parent education, for supporting the language development of the child.



QHow can I apply for the visiting children’s lifestyle service?
A

The government support service should be applied to your (child’s) local <i>eup</i>, <i>myeon</i>, and <i>dong</i> community service center registered on the resident registration (only to the service user’s residence).

→ After receiving the notice of the income type supported by the government, please apply for the service at your local Multicultural Family Support Center.

QAs I know that the home visiting education service is available for multicultural families, what kinds of education services are being provided?
A

216 Multicultural Family Support Centers out of 217 throughout the country carry out the home visiting education service by sending a qualified visiting supervisor to a target family. The service consists of Korean education for marriage-based immigrants and immigrated children of multicultural families, parental education for marriage-based immigrants, and children’s lifestyle service for children.

QDo I need to join the membership if I want to use the Multicultural Family Support Center? What kind of documents do I need for the membership?

To use the Multicultural Family Support Center, you need to join the center membership and require the following documents:

Multicultural families

- If you have your resident registration number: A copy of the Resident Registration (written as a marriage-based immigrant or naturalized Korean citizen on the copy)’

- If you don’t have your resident registration number: A copy of both Family Relation Certification and Certificate of Alien Registration, or a copy of both Family Relation Certification and your Passport

Foreign family members, etc.: A copy of Certificate of Alien Registration or Certificate of Registration of Local Residence

- Foreign workers, foreign students, overseas Koreans (Koreans with foreign citizenship + Korean nationals abroad), refugees, etc.

North Korean refugees: ation of the Registration of North Korean Refugees

QWhat kinds of services does the Multicultural Family Support Center provide? Can I receive services for free of charge?
A

The center provides various projects (operation of programs related to family, gender equality, human rights, and social integration domains, and consultation service), home visiting education services (Korean education service, parental education service, and children’s lifestyle service), information service, language development support project for children of multicultural family, and interpretation and translation service for marriage-based immigrants free of charge. However, the children life service is subject to the user’s payment per income criteria.
