Change of the statistical standards in 2015: The investigation starting point was changed from 1st of January to 1st of November. The investigation method was changed into the registration census system. Persons, who stayed overseas for more than 91 days in three months before and after the investigation starting point, were excluded in the statistics.

※ Due to the revision of the Multicultural Families Support Act (Revised on Nov. 4, 2011, Enforced on Oct. 5, 2011), persons who acquired the Korean nationality by other reasons (such as birth and naturalization) except naturalized citizens by marriage are included in the category of multicultural families.

Multicultural Families Support Act’s Article 2 (Definitions) 1. The term "multicultural family" means any of the following families: (a) A family comprised of immigrants by marriage defined in subparagraph 3 of Article 2 of the Framework Act on Treatment of Foreigners Residing in the Republic of Korea and persons who have acquired nationality of the Republic of Korea pursuant to Articles 2 through 4 of the Nationality Act; (b) A family comprised of a person who has acquired nationality of the Republic of Korea pursuant to Articles 3 and 4 of the Nationality Act and a person who has acquired nationality of the Republic of Korea pursuant to Articles 2 through 4 of the aforementioned Act;
